Abstract:
Block Management is a cooperative program between private landowners and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP). Block Management helps landowners manage hunting activities and provides the public hunting access to private land, and in some cases provide access to adjacent or isolated public lands. Please note that Block Management provides access opportunities primarily during fall hunting. Only some areas in the program provide spring bear and turkey hunting access. IT IS EVERY HUNTERS RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK FOR UPDATES AND VERIFY THEY HAVE CURRENT ACCURATE INFORMATION BEFORE HUNTING.
Purpose:
Block Management Area (BMA) point features were digitized for the purpose of producing reference maps at coarse scales. Use of BMA features at larger scales (more detailed resolution) can lead to misinterpretation and location inaccuracies that could negatively impact users. The locations of sign-in boxes and other points of interest may not be exact. The BMA features are valid only for the current hunting season unless otherwise noted. BMA features change during the hunting season, they are not static. IT IS EVERY HUNTERS RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK FOR UPDATES AND VERIFY THEY HAVE CURRENT ACCURATE INFORMATION BEFORE HUNTING. **Use of outdated data could lead to civil or criminal penalties against the user. FWP will not be liable for civil or criminal liability incurred as a direct or proximate result of user or third-party use of outdated information.** PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Block Management is a hunter management program with access requirements and hunting use rules specific to each BMA. To utilize the program properly, hunters must use the current individual BMA property maps and rules produced by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP). Individual BMA property maps contain detailed information regarding hunting rules specific to the property including, but not limited to, timing restrictions, internal exclusion zones, weapons restrictions, species restrictions, open/closed roads, trails, map boxes, and sign in boxes. Individual property maps are available through FWP at https://fwp.mt.gov/hunt/landownerprograms/block-management. Additionally, most BMA sign-in boxes have maps available on-site or maps can be obtained through FWP's Regional offices. Hunters are responsible for following the rules stated on the most current official FWP BMA maps, additional rules posted on site, and any rules designated by enrolled landowners.
Supplemental information:
Additional information for the Block Management program can be found at http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/hunterAccess/blockman/ and through FWP's Regional offices. Hunters are responsible for following the rules depicted on the official, current FWP BMA maps, as well as any additional rules posted on site or otherwise directed by enrolled landowners. Questions related to the Block Management program should be directed to Jason Kool (FWP Landowner/Sportsman Coordinator) - 406 444-2505 - jason.kool@mt.gov

Method required for obtaining access and hunting permission on the BMA. PTYPE 1 are BMAs where hunters administer their own permission. This includes BMAs that use sign-in boxes, and BMAs that do not require hunters to obtain permission. Typically, Type 1 BMAs do not limit hunter numbers or require reservations, although some parking areas have vehicle limits. PTYPE 2 are BMAs where someone other than the hunter issues permission. This includes BMAs where the landowner or an FWP staff member issues permission. Type 2 BMAs often require reservations and utilize pasture assignments, hunter number limits, and other hunter management systems.
